Manila, PHILIPPINES — Twenty six (26) Scout Leaders were appointed as Local Coordinators of the Scouts of the World (SW) Award Programme for the Boy Scouts of the Philippines, following their completion of the 1st SW Award Seminar last 6-13 November 2016.

The appointment comes as the BSP is mobilizing towards fully implementing all three (3) World Programmes under the Better World Framework – World Scout Environment Programme (WSEP), Scouts of the World (SW) Award Programme and the Messengers of Peace Initiative (MOP).

Pursuant to National Office Memorandum No. 61, Series of 2016, the following were issued with their corresponding appointments as Local SW Award Coordinators, viz:

The Local SW Award Coordinators have been made part of the SW Award Programme Task Force of the BSP, tasked to coordinate the effective implementation and monitoring of the SW Award Programme in the entire organization, and to stimulate the exchange of ideas on environment, peace and development education. Beginning January 2016, they shall be conducting their respective SW Award Seminars to further capacitate local leaders in their areas and eventually help them in the implementation of the programme.

The SWA is an initiative of the WOSM to help national scout organizations (NSOs) revitalize the program of activities that will lead towards the Scout Advancement of the Senior and Rover Scouting Sections, aged between fifteen (15) to twenty six (26) years old, by giving them with opportunities to render and implement community development services and projects, in response to the challenges of the times. It challenges all young people, Scouts and non-Scouts, to think about global issues and act upon them in their local community. It is the only award for young people provided by World Scouting.
