The Scout Uniform

The Scout uniform gives the Scouts and Scouters a sense of belonging to a worldwide organization. The uniform of the Boy Scouts of the Philippines today, has become a national symbol of young boys trained to meet the responsibilities of their duty to GOD and Country, to Others, and to Self.

The Boy Scouts of the Philippines is the largest uniformed volunteer organization in the country. Scout and Scouters are nationally recognized and accepted. We, in Scouting today, have inherited the tradition  of a uniform that stands for good character, responsible citizenship, and selfless service. It is our responsibility to safeguard this tradition and to hand it down stronger and more honorable than ever to the next generation of Scouts and Scouters.

What the Uniform Means

First of all, the Uniform makes you feel that you are a member of our movement that you belong to a world-wide brotherhood of young people numbering millions. Everywhere you go, if you wear the Scout Uniform, you will find Scout friends. This gives you a feeling of comfort and ease.

Second, whenever and wherever you wear the Uniform, it proclaims you as a person of character. The Uniform symbolizes our Scout Oath, our Law, our  “Daily Good Turn” habit, and the Ideals of our Movement. If  you are to wear it, be sure to wear it with honor.

Third, the Scout Uniform stands for Preparedness. An accident occurs, a crowd gathers around. No one knows just what to do. A uniformed Scout steps quietly forward. The crowd lets him through, for he is supposed to know what to do in an emergency. He administers first aid and slips away, probably without his name being known. The Scout uniform quietly says that hero is a fellow who is ready to be “helpful to other people at all times.”

Why is it that Scouts are expected to do these things? Because “Service” is synonymous with Scouting. “Laging Handa” is Scout Motto . No matter what nationality or race or religion a Scout belongs to, he is a brother to every other Scout.

Fourth, the uniform is a symbol of democracy. In Scouting, young people stand shoulder to shoulder regardless of social standing. The son of a governor or that of a wealthy man becomes equal of a laborer’s son in Scouting. Both pledged to give the same service; both are sworn to the same Oath and Law; and wear the same uniform. Poverty or social position is no hindrance to the acquisition of advancement badges and insignia of labor.

And lastly, the Uniform stands for Outdoor life. The color and design of the shirt, the pants, the neckerchief, the stockings, the shoes, and the hat, are suggestive of the outdoors. Khaki blends beautifully with the color of the outdoors. The reddish brown color of th neckerchief symbolizes the iron rich soil of the Philippines and its tropical environment which remains a great challenge for Scouts to conquer, conserve and preserve. Comfortable short pants, the short-sleeved shirt, afford freedom of movement and ease of motion. It is just the type of uniform an outdoorsman will want to wear.

Furthermore, the many features of “open-ness” in the Uniform point to Scouts’ honesty and trustworthiness. The “shorts,” pants and the short-sleeved-shirt with collar personify the spirit of a true Scout – always open and on the level, ever honest and ever deserving of trust.

When to Wear the Uniform

There is ONLY ONE WAY TO WEAR the Scout Uniform – CORRECT WAY. Study the illustrations and use them as your guide.

The Scout Uniform is worn on the following occasions:

  1. In all activities of the Unit (meetings, hikes, camps, rallies, camporees, jamborees/jamborettes, etc.);
  2. During special religious services services for Scouts and Scouters;
  3. When appearing for advancement before a Board of Review or a Court of Honor; and
  4. When prescribed for official and/or special Scouting activities.

When NOT to Wear the Uniform

  1. When soliciting funds or engaged in any selling, marketing or promotional campaign, or in any commercial venture not related to Scouting (This does not however, forbid Scouts in uniform from selling tickets for Scouts benefit shows, rallies, and similar Scouting events);
  2. When engaged in any endeavor/activity of a political party;
  3. When appearing professionally on stage, in motion pictures, or modeling without specific authority from the National Executive Board of the Boy Scouts of the Philippines;
  4. When taking part in parades, except for the purpose of rendering service as a Scout/er or when representing officially the Boy Scouts of the Philippines and;
  5. When one ceases to be a Scout/er through failure to register; or leaves the Scout Movement for any other reason.

    • kenneth e cunanan says:

      It is not the matter even how your smartness and cuteness will eligible you to become an Eagle Scout. The matter most is how you lived in the Scouting Ideals etc. Ask your Unit Leader how to start to set a climb to become a Eagle Scout.

  21. Sit ask ko lang po, magkano complete set, my son is in 4th grade, so boyscout uniform na ang gagamitin niya, does he need to wear the complete uniform w/out the patches please give me feedback on this. thank you

    • scout jerome dupit says:

      ah, so your son has newly registered for bsp maam? it isn’t necessary to buy the patches and all those stuffs maam.
      what’s essential are the prescribed boy scout upper shirt and brown pants, and the bsp belt& buckle.

      • kenneth e cunanan says:

        Mam, Just contact the local council distributor or scout shop. The Scout’s attachment on he uniform is essential when he gone through advancement program. The matter most in the scouting are the neckerchief and slide and how to live in scout ideals after the investiture.

      • kenneth e cunanan says:

        For today, registration is Php 60.00. And if your institution ask for a higher fee for registration, kindly clarify for what for are the extra amount? Usually institutions and units includes miscellaneous expenses in order to run the program. We all know that in every organization, Funds are generally important for administering and operations.

    permit it if possible, to include images pertaining to the topic of the page to be more informative and self explanatory. it is much better to have images of the scouting uniform, its types, and descriptions to impart complete knowledge of the topic on hand.

    scouts who go over their heads and are way ward usually brag and use the uniform in the wrong way. at some point they really should be taught a lesson. report it to your scout masters, they should know how to handle it.

  31. Gil A. dela Cruz says:

    Masyadong mahal ang benta nila , please govern them also with strict compliance or we can give it to others

    • Scouting is not all about wearing the Scout uniform! Yes! Scout uniform is quite expensive but quality wise we have a good quality. We suggest to buy a Scout uniform by piece…first buy Scout Neckerchief and Slide…after few months, short pants or long pants then so on and so fort….until such time that you have the complete set of the Scout uniform.

    • kenneth e cunanan says:

      Yes, but acquiring the scout uniform and its attachment teaches the boy scouts to live in standard and making them proud as member of the world’s largest noble organization of happy men. You can complete later the uniform as the boy scout will go through advancement program.

    • kenneth e cunanan says:

      This symbolize the the level or program undertaken by the scouts and scouters. What matter most is the neckerchief which embodied the ideals of all scouting movement around the world.

  45. Paolo Sysy says:

    Saan po inilalagay yung rank badge? Yung green po?

  46. Ron Alvin Cabahug says:

    yes i was asking for the right position of those strip.pinagbasehan ko lang po ko lang po yung Philippine strip na dapat na nasa left shoulder yung highest strip. since naka note po na “sewn immediately below the left shoulder seam”. yun po ibig kong sabihin kaya nabanggit ko po yung Philippine strip. tama po ba intindi ko na dapat nasa left shoulder ang highest? or kung mali po ano po ba dapat position kung may regional, council, institutional strip ako. salamat po. pasensya na po kung di clear pagtatanong ko nung una.

    • Dear Scout Cabahug,

      Mabuti siguro Council Strip at Institutional Strip na lang ang ilagay mo sa Scout uniform mo.

      On your right shoulder seam you will put the following badges:
      Council Strip
      Troop or Outfit Numerals
      Position Badge

      On your left shoulder seam you will put the following badges:
      Institutional Strip
      Provisional badge (latest activity or jamboree that you have been attended)

      Note:FYI The Philippine Strip should always be in the right shoulder seam.

      Thanks

      and your Institutional Strip will be on your left shoulder seam.

  47. Ron Alvin Cabahug says:

    sir may tanong lang po ako regarding sa strip(council, region, institutional). medyo nakakalito po eh. kasi po yung sa NSS yung sa Philippine Strip nakanote po na “sewn immediately below the left shoulder seam” does it mean na the highest strip na available will be in the left shoulder? tama po ba? salamat po.

    • Dear Scout Cabahug,

      Your question is quite confusing you mentioned the shoulder strips in the Scout uniform (council, region and institutional) then you mentioned also the Philippine Strip. Please direct to the point your question.
      Are you asking the right position of the strips?

      Why do you need to wear Philippine Strip?

      Those Scouts and Scout Leaders who will represent the Boy Scouts of the Philippines to the international Scouting event like conferences, trainings and jamborees are authorized to wear the Philippine strip.

      The National office Staff of the BSP and the National executive Board members are also required to use Philippine Strip.

      Thanks

    • Dear Christopher,

      The Boy Scouts of the Philippines program of activities are flexible. We have a lots of exciting fun and games for our Scouts. The Scout uniform is okay. Depende siguro duon sa Scout na nakita mo kung paano nya isinuot yung Scout uniform.
