On March 24, 2018, hundreds of Scouts were gathered at the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) ground not just to attend the big switch-off, but to participate in the exciting activities prepared by the World Wide Fund (WWF) for Nature such as iceberg path game, dolphin dive game, environmental pledge and environmental talk.
Earth Hour 2018 themed “Connect2Earth” was called for the protection of Earth’s biodiversity to respond in the worsening impacts of climate change.
The Scouts were mobilized as part of the global partnership between World Organization of Scout Movement (WOSM) under its Environmental Education program and WWF.
The Boy Scouts and the WWF ambassadors ended the program by reading their pledge for the environment.
SCOUT’S PLEDGE FOR THE ENVIRONMENT
I am a SCOUT. I am a STEWARD OF THE EARTH.
I WILL RESPECT ALL LIVING THINGS, BIG AND SMALL, and will strive to protect all species especially those that are endangered or threatened by extinction.
I WILL FOLLOW ALL ENVIRONMENT LAWS AND REGULATIONS and inspire my fellow Scouts to do the same.
I WILL HELP PROTECT OUR ENVIRONMENT AND NATURAL RESOURCES by not polluting the air, soil and water and by setting myself as example in proper waste disposal and advocating among my fellow Scouts and friends the act of recycling, reusing and reducing waste.
I WILL HELP NURTURE ECOLOGICAL BALANCE by planting and nurturing trees and making sure that I will not be an instrument in the destruction of the country’s forest, wetlands and coral reefs which are vital in sustaining the lives of animals and plants which are the links in the chain that support life.
I WILL ACTIVELY SUPPORT GROUPS WHO ADVOCATE ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION and follow their lead to save planet earth from environmental degradation.
