Wendel E. Avisado and Rogelio S. Villa, Jr. assumes their new posts in the Boy Scouts of the Philippines (BSP) as National President and Officer-in-Charge of the Office of the Secretary General effective July 1.

Avisado, 63, was elected as National President on June 17 during the 1st Regular Meeting and Election of Officers of the newly reconstituted National Executive Board (NEB). In the same meeting, he was authorized by the Board to appoint Villa, 58, as Officer-in-Charge of the Office of the Secretary General.

Avisado replaces former Vice President Jejomar C. Binay after the latter bowed out from the Presidency after eighteen (18) fruitful years. He is currently serving as the 1st Vice Chairperson of the Asia-Pacific Regional Scout Committee, the highest governing body of all national scout organizations in the Asia-Pacific.

Prior to his election to the presidency, he served the BSP as its Acting Secretary General from July 2013 until yesterday. During his short stint as Acting Secretary General, he introduced various reforms in the organization, streamlined office procedures and front line services, and ushered its smooth transition from a private corporation to a government-owned and controlled corporation, following a decision of the Supreme Court in 2011.

Villa, on the other hand, has been with the BSP for 22 years. He started as a young Council Scout Executive of BSP’s premiere Local Council, Manila Council in 1992. In 1995, he was transferred to the BSP National Office by former Secretary General Carlos C. Escudero as Operations Executive, then as Officer-in-Charge of the National Capital Region in 1996, and eventually as Director for Administration in 1997. He will serve his new post in a concurrent capacity as Director of the Field Operations Division.
