BSP bares winners of top Scouts search

The Boy Scouts of the Philippines recently announced  the winners of the search for the 10 outstanding Boy Scouts of the Philippines.

The winners were chosen from the 25 finalists representing the 10 Scouting Regions in the country and were selected from among the hundreds of candidates from 117 Local Councils nationwide.  Now on its 22nd, the search began at the Local Council level, then the Regional level up to the National level.  The last leg of the competition was the interview held at the BSP National Office last September 29.

Exclusively sponsored by Coca-Cola Export Corp., the annual search is the biggest event in the Scouting calendar for the country’s two million Scouts.  The nationwide search begins in July and culminates in the awarding ceremonies in October as one of the highlights of Scouting Month, the founding anniversary of the BSP.  The contest is for Senior Scouts, who are Filipino citizens, currently registered third and fourth year high school students.

Winners of the search will receive two-year college scholarships, cash and other prices.  Part of criteria for the selection of winners  are community service, which refers to leadership or membership involvement to school-related activities; character development and bearing; and interview which includes communication skills and personality.

This year’s winners are: Scouts Gian Lee Carlo Quiban, Abra Council; Miguel Ricardo R. Leung, Baguio City; Henry Jefferson C. Morco, Manila Council, Marius Lorenzo U. Marquez, Oriental Mindoro Council ; Arnel M. Arevalo, Rizal Council; Adrian Justin DC del Rosario, City of Sta. Rosa Council; Cyprian Jade L. Basa, Capiz Council; Nino Christopher A.
